Overview

On Aug. 5, 2014, Capital Area District Libraries will ask voters to renew our operating millage at the current rate of 1.56 mills for another four years. For an Ingham County resident who owns a home with a taxable value of $50,000 (market value of $100,000), the cost of 1.56 mills is $78 per year or just 21 cents per day.

Renewal of its millage will provide Capital Area District Libraries with the funding to continue operating 13 branches and a Bookmobile, serving 23 municipalities in Ingham County.

The Facts

  • CADL has operated under the same millage rate since 2006.
  • If this millage is approved, your taxes for library service will not increase.
  • CADL's current millage expired Dec. 31, 2013.
  • Almost 90% of our funding comes from our operating millage.
  • Despite the loss of nearly $1.4 million in tax revenue over the past three years, CADL has maintained operations by reducing $1.6 million in expenses.
  • CADL patrons checked out 2.7 million items in 2013.
