About the Forest Parke Library & Archives

The Capital Area District Libraries' local history collections have been named in honor of Mr. Forest Parke, a long-time Lansing resident and a 1901 graduate of Lansing Central High School. When he passed away, his wife Mary made a gift to the library to ensure that local history materials would be preserved.

Read more about Mr. Parke here.

While the majority of the collections are housed in the Downtown Lansing branch, our entire geographic service area in Ingham County, as well as some surrounding areas and Michigan history in general, are covered in the materials that we collect. Some branches maintain small local history collections relevant to their immediate areas as well. And every day we add more material to our Local History Online collection.
