Comics 101: An Introduction to the Michigan State University Comics Collection
1:00pm - 2:30pm
Michigan State University has many amazing claims to fame like Tom Izzo’s basketball legacy or being the first land-grant institution in the United States. However, one of the most unique ones is the Comics Collection that is part of the Murray & Hong Special Collections inside the MSU Libraries. The collection contains approximately 350,000 comics which makes it the world’s largest publicly accessible comics collection.
The collection holds materials going back to the early years of the medium through today and contains comics from all around the world. Spend an hour with MSU Comics Studies Librarian Jason Larsen as he discusses the history of the collection, what makes comics unique in literature, how the collection is used, and how it can be accessed by anyone. He will also highlight some of the unique materials in the collection and be answering questions from the audience about the collection and comics.
