The Haunting of Hill House

An excellent horror-drama with grief and family at its core

Loosely inspired by Shirley Jackson’s book of the same name, this series follows adult siblings in the aftermath of supernaturally-shaded family tragedies. The main characters feel grounded, in part due to strong performances from child actors during flashback scenes. Though ghosts feature in this spooky series, the core hauntings are the complications of mental illness, family dysfunction, and grief. The Haunting of Hill House handles its mature themes well to tell an absorbing and poignant story.
