A wonderful collection of soul stirring blues songs
Albert King is considered one of the greatest artists in the post-World War II Memphis Blues Genre, which is characterized as a blending of electric blues with soul music. His unorthodox manner of guitar playing contributed to his unique sound. King was left-handed but played a right-handed guitar, backwards and upside down. The soul-stirring sound of his guitar coupled with his vocals and catchy lyrics influenced several rock artists in the 1970s. There are so many great tracks in this thirty-four-song compilation that it’s difficult to pick my favorites. However, here are some standouts for me – “Laundromat Blues”, “I’ll Play the Blues for You” and “Drowning on Dry Land”. But I would be remiss if didn’t include the title song from his most influential album “Born on a Bad Sign” as well as one of my favorite humorous Christmas songs “Santa Claus Wants Some Loving.” This album is available on Hoopla.
