Rubyfruit Jungle

One of the most candid and unapologetic queer classics.

Author Rita Mae Brown does an incredible job bringing the main character, Molly, to life in Rubyfruit Jungle.  Molly is a stubborn narrator and I loved the paragraphs that were rambles of the inner workings of her mind.  She loves fiercely and freely and isn't afraid to tell people how she feels about them.  The book is filled with LGBTQIA+ characters and Molly seems to fall in love with every single one of them.  Such a wonderful read and I definitely cried a little at how the ending circled back around to Molly's beginnings.  Even if you're not a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I think it's worth reading because the book really sets the tone of what it was like being queer when so many people were afraid to use that word.
