Lady Maximillian is forced into an arranged marriage by her abusive, scheming father to a brutish lowborn knight. Riftan leaves for war without a word after their disastrous wedding night. When he returns three years later a hero and even more of a stranger, he whisks a terrified Maxi away to his castle, but she soon realizes that there is a tenderness, passion, and loyalty behind Riftan’s gruff exterior. Can Maxi overcome her self-doubt and her crippling stutter, and can Riftan lower his guard of surliness to make this relationship work beyond their sizzling infatuation? The art is beautiful: Maxi is ethereal, innocent and childlike, while Riftan is a towering mass of muscle, but it adds an additional surreal quality to this magic-filled world.
