The Lilac People

A new lens into Germany before and after World War 2.

Regarding the Holocaust, you often learn about the yellow stars (for the Jewish people), or the pink triangles (for homosexuals), but you don’t often hear of the black triangles. The black triangles covered the “asocial”. Often that being the Romani people, the mentally and physically disables, sex workers, and transgender people. 
In this book we follow a transgender man before and after World War 2. Seeing how things changed for him as Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power, and the fall out of the Nazis losing World War 2. As people were freed from the internment and concentration camps, transgender people were not. 
Heartbreaking, intense, and a well-researched story. I highly recommend this book if you enjoyed In Memoriam by Alice Winn.
