A gripping and emotional (but still funny!) book about found family, community, and identity.
This book blew me away! I’ve been meaning to read her first two, Firekeeper’s Daughter and Warrior Girl Unearthed, for a long time. When I saw this book on the On Order list, I had to have it.
Everyone told me Angeline Boulley is great, but I really had to read her for myself. Sisters in the Wind follows Lucy Smith, a Native teen who’s grown up in the foster care system around Northern Michigan, as she comes to terms with her past, her heritage, and her precarious future.
I can tell that so much love and care went into this book, as well as research--Lucy uncovers family secrets while learning about the Indian Child Welfare Act. Boulley provides a resource list for readers to learn more about Native history in Michigan and ICWA’s place in it.
