Hit me with your best … shooter or How my hitman obsession is faring today
You don’t know me. That’s OK, I’m happy to meet you now. But one of the things you don’t know about me – since, you don’t know me – is that I am an avid espionage and assassin/vigilante/rogue reader. This is maybe not a common passion among women readers, but a few of us are out there. And personally, I love the oxymoronic hitman with a heart of gold, and the vengeance seeking “innocent-sort-of” black ops character. My very favorite for a good long while now is Jack Reacher, created and written by Lee Child.
“Reacher” has been the theme of a series of books by Child, as well as multiple movies, and now has a TV series starring Alan Ritchson. The show is fantastic and can be borrowed from the library system, as well as the books in the series. Both are gritty, fast paced, full of action and tension, and unique. With a cornucopia of plots, each installment remains exciting and fresh, unlike some series that become formulaic and staid. I have chosen to recommend the book One Shot, but I could have selected any out of the series and felt good about the recommendation.
A former military man, Reacher has incredible combat and strategical skills, but he is also a “good old boy” who just wants to do right by life. He manages to attract trouble wherever he goes and keeps himself busy beating up or blowing up bad guys. I would LOVE to see how his online dating profile would read, but he’s really not the internet/face-time/blogging sort of man. If you enjoy big, burly, badass guys like I do and haven’t yet tried this series, jump in now! It’s never been better, since we now have Alan Ritchson to imagine doing the action, and this role couldn’t be more perfectly cast.
