What starts as a page-by-page description of classes of animal—from mammal to bird—devolves abruptly when we hit fish… the narrator says: This is a fish. Don’t trust fish. So begins a wonderfully informative overview of the wide range of attributes of fish—all in the hopes of convincing the reader that fish are possibly plotting the overthrow of the world. Caldecott winner Dan Santat’s art is hilarious and if you pay attention, you just might guess who is narrating before the end. When reading this very funny book aloud be prepared to yell and consider practicing your best pirate… and Golem voices.
