The Last Murder at the End of the World

125 people are left alive at the end of the world. After tonight, it will be 124.

The end of the world rolled in with the fog. The last remnants of humanity are left on a single island, using a generator to hold back the fog. With so few people left - three scientists and one hundred twenty two villagers, it is important that everyone work together and get along as best as they can, but when the most beloved of the scientists is found dead, it is up to her two coworkers and the rebellious villager to figure out what happened - before the generator fails and the fog rolls in. 

Stuart Turton’s books are really good at combining murder mysteries with Something Else - in this case, a look at a sentient AI that helps run the island and what it means for something to be “human”. (Turton joked that his first book was a locked house mystery, the second was a locked ship, this one is a locked island, so perhaps his fourth will be a locked space station mystery. I look forward to reading that one!)
