Franklin’s insightful debut offers a coming-of-age story from the perspective of a lonely and largely undiagnosed neurodivergent girl who eventually thinks of herself as Little Alien. On catching a television documentary on the very real and intriguing 15th century Voynich Manuscript written in an “alien” language it becomes a hyper fixation that helps further introduce her to the intricacies and quirks of language in general.  Her view of her world is both heartbreaking and humorous.
