Enjoy a dish of literary comfort food

One of the things I love about working in a library and being surrounded by books is the opportunity it presents to stumble across gems like this one.  I had just finished listening to the audiobook, The Torah for Dummies, on Hoopla and wanted to find additional resources to learn more about Judaism.  When this title appeared in my catalog search, I was immediately intrigued by the title and the cover.  Twitty, the author of The Cooking Gene, is a culinary historian who is African American, Jewish, and gay.  Although there are several recipes and meal ideas at the end, in the preface he indicates it is not meant to be a cookbook. Rather, it reads like a culinary memoir that explores “the intersections of food and identity.” I really enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook. However, if you’re interested in the recipes, I’d recommend the print or eBook versions, which are both available at CADL.
