A coming of age memoir set in Detroit during the 80's

Curtis Chin has crafted a memoir that is easy to digest, using the courses found on a traditional Chinese-American menu to separate the sections of his book. He tells stories that put you in the moment. Detroit in the 80's was tumultuous and he describes it well. Anyone that is familiar with the city during that time, would read about familiar places and events. He also describes the challenges of growing up as a Chinese-American--racial issues, discrimination, and the pressure to succeed. I am looking forward to his next book!
