Light-hearted pop to hold a concert to in your living room at 2AM
Rather than release an album that bares his soul, Jungkook's mission was to push himself as a singer and performer and become a true "pop star". Noting that the album isn't autobiographical, he worked with many American producers and writers such as Andrew Watt and Jon Bellion, stating he chose songs based on their instrumentals and his envisioned performances of them. While its a true pop album, Jungkook succeeds in exploring various vocal performances and genres within that. "Standing Next to You" is funky, retro, and larger-than-life, "Seven" is a UK garage pop love song that's summer-y and hopelessly devoted, "Closer to You" and "Somebody" embrace sexy and sultry tones (the former having a tropical house influence thanks to the Major Lazer feature), and "Hate You" is a winter-like heartbreaking ballad. For any long time fans who know how shy and introverted Jungkook is, we proudly get to watch as he accomplishes the goal of breaking out of his shell and standing strong as a solo performer.
