Things You Save In a Fire

An enjoyable slow burner

I liked this book because it was a “slow burner” (excuse the pun) – one that gradually grew on me until I was surprisingly drawn into the story. It’s about the struggles of very capable and experienced firefighter who must prove herself after transferring to a new fire department upon relocating to a small New England town to care for her estranged ailing mother. Workplace discrimination and family relationships are major themes in this book. Although things get a little tense midway through, the story has a happy ending.
