Classic Funk Hits

A relaxing musical blast from the past

 While browsing through Hoopla’s musical offerings I came across this band I had never heard of before.  According to their website, the Smooth Jazz All Stars is “an eclectic mix of talented jazz musicians who transform popular music of the past and present into smooth rhythms and beats for any occasion.”  This group has several tribute albums/CDs available in Hoopla in which they play jazz instrumental versions of hit songs from iconic artists such as Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, and Prince.  On this particular album they perform jazz renditions of an array of classic funk and soul songs including Lakeside’s “Fantastic Voyage”, Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September”, and the Ohio Player’s “Love Rollercoaster.” If you enjoy jazz and are also nostalgic for Old School R&B, you’ll love Classic Funk Hits. For me, as an extra bonus, I really liked the retro cover art for this album/CD.
