Champion of Fate

Greek mythology is fun to read, but this is even better.

Reminiscent of Valkyries and the Amazonians of Themyscira, the Aristene are not only holy warriors, but muses to the heroes of the mortal world. Reed and the young women she was raised with are training to join the order, but first they must pass their most formidable test, and find out the cost of their choices in the process. I would say the main theme of this story is sisterhood and found family, but it also carries a strong through-line of chosen versus assigned identity. Readers might like this story if they're looking for a female-focused level up from the Percy Jackson books, or if they enjoyed books like Circe by Madeline Miller and Clytemnestra by Costanza Cosati.
