Nina, a teenager of Lipan Apache ancestry, grows up hearing tales of the animal people who used to live in our world.  Her grandmother faces losing the familial homestead in Texas to predatory neighbors and the increasingly frequent hurricanes caused by climate change.  Oli and his friends are animal people that exist in the Reflecting World, which is separate from yet impacted by events that happen on Earth.  Nina and Oli’s worlds connect when they realize they have to seek help beyond themselves to save their loved ones.  Compelling storytelling, magical realism, and ties of friendship and family make this a compulsive read.
