While its introduction is somewhat heavy-handed in its satire, it quickly gains its own unique identity with a small, yet loveable cast of main characters which Rowell thoughtfully develops throughout the novel & subsequent books of the trilogy. At times light & funny, it doesn’t shy away from the heavy burdens that come along with the responsibility of saving the magical world from certain doom.
