When recently widowed Agatha Griffin discovers a swarm of bees in her printshop warehouse, the last thing she expects is that she will become close friends with Penelope Flood, the beekeeper she hires to handle the situation.  Even less does she expect that the friendship will eventually blossom into a passionate and committed romance. 

This book is a genuine page-turner.  Agatha and Penelope are the type of socially responsible, kindly women we’d all like for neighbors, and their romance develops at a leisurely pace as befits their maturity, propelled forward by a series of charming and witty letters.    (Though when their relationship finally takes on a physical dimension, the results are explosively sensuous.)  Furthermore, the novel’s historical backdrop is interesting – much of the action takes place in the summer of 1820, when England teetered on the brink of anarchy as King George IV tried to rid himself of Queen Caroline, who was very popular with the English people.
