Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is an unsettling and very powerful book about a woman’s mental unraveling under the misogynistic practices both in her upbringing and her role in society. The translation is simple yet searing. Even though Korean culture differs from American culture in many ways, I found so much that resonated with me and my experience as a female in the world. Without question one of the most effective feminist narratives in recent years. I’m excited to read more from Cho Nam-Joo in the future.
