Stella loves to write in her journal every night and dreams of becoming a writer one day.  She just doesn’t believe she can and struggles especially at school. Her teacher encourages and nudges Stella to become better at perfecting her writing skills.  This book also depicts life in the South and how a young girl witnesses the racial tension around her and by writing about these events, she is telling her version of history.
