When the back cover of this book described it as an “instant lesbian classic” exploring “blackness, radical ecology, re-definitions of family, and the erotic potential of the vampire story,” I was sold. However, I fell even more in love with the cast of characters as they meld into a network of community ties that strengthen and twist throughout the eras. A deeply immersive read somewhere between horror, historical fiction, and afrofuturism.
