If I Was

So sometimes I’m way behind, I just discovered the Staves after catching one of their songs on a repeat of a November 2016 episode of Prairie Home Companion. The song was “Sadness Don’t Own Me,” from their 2015 release If I Was and luckily hoopla has it. The Staves are a folk rock trio of sisters who innately blend harmonies. The whole album flows beautifully but I loved “Sadness,” “Make it Holy,” “Blood I Bled,” and “Steady”… okay, I pretty much liked everything. Their songs are modern but also have the feel of Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, or the Civil Wars.
