Sister Citizen

As an African American, in the wake of the NFL National Anthem protests, I’ve been thinking a lot about citizenship and what it means to be patriotic. For many people of color these questions are ambiguous. In other words…it’s complicated. This is the context in which I stumbled across this book. Sister Citizen exposes readers to the unique challenges that Black Women have had to navigate and endure throughout our nation’s history in their quest to be regarded and treated as full-fledged American citizens. It is a story of hardship, resilience, and faith. And, yes, it is a story of patriotism.
