Mastromonaco’s memoir is smart, very funny, and full of candid advice about a life in politics.  It offers a view of her ten years working for first State Senator Barack Obama during his run for United States Senate and into his Presidency including hits and misses. The misses generally resulting in the title question “Who thought this was a good idea?” from her boss. Anyone (but especially women) with an interest in a career in politics could learn something here, but it’s also a genuinely fun read from a fascinating insider's perspective.
