Things We Lost in the Fire

This took me a little longer to finish than I intended but that isn’t a reflection on the content. Argentinian author Mariana Enriquez’s Things We Lost in the Fire was a fascinating and disturbing collection of stories—some macabre, some spooky, many thought-provoking. They stop in just the right place to make the reader feel—fear for what might happen next, inappropriate satisfaction at the disappearance of an insufferable husband, a chill from stories that Lovecraft might admire—some more severe than others. This is well written (and translated) psychological fiction.
