Awaken, My Love!

Donald Glover is probably best known as an actor, comedian, and television writer ("30 Rock, "Community," and the brilliant "Atlanta" are just a few of his acting/writing credits) but he is also an outstanding musician.

 

His latest offering, under his alter ego "Childish Gambino," is a kaleidoscopic, sometimes psychedelic, mixture of rap and old school soul. It contains shades of Prince and George Clinton/Funkadelic, with frequent bursts of wild electric guitar and spacey sound effects. It does contain one curveball in the funny, reggae-inspired "California." All-in-all, an excellent album and one of the best of 2016.
