A great refresher for improving practical math skills

As a person with a STEM background, I am always a little perplexed when I meet people who absolutely loathe math.   The conversation usually starts with complaints about how the math courses that they were forced to take in school were a waste of time and are irrelevant to the real world.

Actually, believe it or not, we all use math everyday. Ok, I’m probably not going to convince you of the merits of learning trigonometry or calculus.  However, whether it’s buying a car, grocery shopping, home improvement, cooking, investing money, or creating a budget, math figures into (excuse the pun) many different aspects of daily living.  If the notion of this causes you stress, then Math for Grownups is the book for you.

It provides readers with a review of essential mathematical concepts that are very relevant to the average adult.  Laing, a math educator, presents them in manner which is both logical and easy to grasp.  The tone of the book is so nonthreatening that most math phobics will forget that it is a math book and hopefully glean a lot of useful information which may be applicable in their lives.
