Pax

When Peter is sent off to his grandfather’s house ahead of a coming war, he is forced to abandon his pet fox, Pax, in the forest. What follows is a story told from both Peter and Pax’s points-of-view as the two attempt to make their way back to each other, despite broken bones, coyotes and minefields. I loved the relationships and quiet character growth we see happening in this book, and even though I guessed the ending, it was still a punch to the heart when I finished it.

 

The book includes illustrations by Jon Klassen, which I thought added to the almost dream-like feel of the overall story.
