Enchantment Lake: A Northwoods Mystery

What's up with all the mysterious deaths at Enchantment Lake?

Francie is a 17-year-old aspring actor trying to make it in New York City when she receives a call from her eccentric aunts, who live at remote Enchantment Lake in northern Minnesota.  It seems that locals are dying off at an alarming rate from unlikely “accidents”, and the aunts are worried that they might be next.  It’s up to Francie – who once played a girl detective on a short-lived TV series – to head north and investigate. 

Francie is a realistic protagonist – no hidden ninja skills or superpowers here – who relies on common sense and sheer doggedness to get the job done.  And this book’s setting is exquisitely rendered. If you’ve ever paddled a kayak on an up-north lake, fought mosquitoes during a camping trip, or shopped at a backwoods convenience store that stocks a little bit of everything, you’ll appreciate Preus's fine-tuned attention to detail.
