In this final installment of the Ranger's Apprentice series, Will is off to the far off land of Nihon-Ja to rescue his best friend Horace. Horace was on a diplomatic mission to the Emperor, when a rogue Samurai stages a coup. Now, Horace and the Emperor are on the run.
 
This is a great ending to the series. Over the course of the series Flanagan really developed the characters of Will, Horace, Alice, and Evanlyn. You really feel like you grew up with them. Now, if he were to write a sequel, he would have to title it "The Ranger"... Will is an apprentice no longer.
 
Fans of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Fantasy literature will enjoy this series, through it is set in a low-magic, truer to reality setting.
