In a fantastic, atmospheric story set on a 1970’s W. Virginia racetrack our heroine, Maggie Koderer, arrives with her scheming boyfriend Tommy. Here they meet the aging groom Medicide Ed, horse owner Dewcey Gifford, disgraced money man Two-Tie, and a stable full of horse personalities. A wonderfully descriptive writer, the book is written in the 3rd person, but some chapters are told by a dark, haunting 2nd person. As the story unfolds, the stakes get higher and fear and violence takes hold. Can Maggie survive in this male dominated world of horse and human flesh?
