I and Love and You

Indie alt-country group hits the best of the year and decade lists!

I caught the music video for the title track on this CD over Thanksgiving weekend and fell in love opting to hang out on The Avett Brother website and listen to the full album until I could get a hold of a library copy. The Rick Rubin-produced major-label debut has garnered a lot of critical acclaim including spots on Amazon’s Best Albums of 2009 (#5), the NPR posted Top 10 Albums of 2009 From World Cafe (#2), and Paste Magazine’s The Best 50 Albums of the Decade (#9). The Avett Brothers music falls somewhere in the wide morass of Alt-Country leaving them up to this point an indie sensation but off the mainstream radar. But their sound can border on bluegrass, alternative rock, rock and punk and would have equal interest to fans of Hem (Rabbit Songs), Johnny Cash’s American IV, Shooter Jennings (Put the O Back in Country), Mindy Smith (One Moment More), or Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s Raising Sand.
