The One-Stop Celebration Shop

One of my favorite reference books is Chase’s Calendar of Events. Whether you’re looking for a new cause or just something fun to celebrate, you can check Chase’s and you are bound to find a celebration for any day, week or month. Here’s a sampling from the month of May:

Gardening for Wildlife Month – sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.

Get Caught Reading Month – www.getcaughtreading.org

Jewish-American Heritage Month

National Barbecue Month – sponsored by the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association.

National Vinegar Month – www.versatilevinegar.org

These are just several from 50 pages for the month of May. While Chase’s Calendar of Events can help you find the celebration, Capital Area District Libraries can help you prepare for it.

Let’s say that you’ve decided to celebrate National Barbecue Month by having weekly barbecue parties. Just go to the search bar above and type in the keyword Barbecue. You will find entries for every type of barbecue you could imagine.

Here are a few samples: Barbecue sauces, rubs, and marinades: bastes, butters & glazes, too by Steven Raichlen. Get this book in print or as an ebook through hoopla or overdrive. You may be interested in checking out this title: The One True Barbecue: fire, smoke, and the pitmasters who cook the whole hog by Rien Fertel. Find titles on vegan barbecue, Korean barbecue and more.

There are so many different offerings from CADL on barbecue, that the celebration may have to go longer than May. You might just have to extend your celebration through the whole summer.

Capital Area District Libraries’ Webberville branch is located at 115 S. Main Street in Webberville. For more information, call 517-521-3643.
