I think the description of this collection as “ferocious and tender” is wholly apt. 

There were many times I laughed out loud at the author’s sardonic wit, and many times I felt the sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, anguish of someone trying to live in our current society, conflicted between cultures, often rejected by even those closest to them for trying to carve out their own authentic existence. The moments when acceptance is found are bright stars, littered throughout. 

I would recommend this poetry collection in general but the audiobook especially as it is read by the author, offering the deeply gratifying experience of hearing the words in the tone, cadence, and flow in which they were intended. It certainly added to the experience.
