The exciting adaptation of a radio play from the 1940's

Based on a radio drama from the 1940s, this graphic novel from Gene Luen Yang and artist duo Gurihiru is about a Chinese family moving to the suburbs and confronting racism (with some help from Superman). The story deals with the pressure to assimilate and connects Superman’s estrangement from Earth to the issues faced by the Lee family. The dynamic between the siblings, along with the way they dealt with racism at school, felt very realistic to me. If you’ve enjoyed Yang’s other works, such as American Born Chinese or the Boxers/Saints duology, this is a great comic to pick up. I'd also recommend it to all superhero fans interested in a unique take on Superman's legacy.
