Like the humble potato, family can be either nutritious or poisonous. Be careful which part you consume.

A.S. King’s work is so good, and so weird, I can never find the right words to convince other people to read it. It’s got potatoes! And drive-thru drug deals! And maybe a ghost, but honestly I’m not sure, and also a literal flea circus, and some really pointed and timely commentary on hidden-in-plain-sight racism, and a fascinating look at how what we inherit from our family can stay with us whether we want it to or not. In short, it is a really well-written, complicated book about some of the many complex issues facing teens and young adults.
