Not Your Ordinary Religious Book

Nadia Bolz-Weber is the founding pastor of House for All Sinners and Saints in Denver Colorado.  This congregation primarily ministers to parishioners that could be characterized as non-traditional church-goers.  Bolz-Weber grew up in a fundamentalist Christian denomination that pushed her away from religion.  After coming to terms with a substance abuse problem and other life struggles she was drawn back to religion and went on to become an ordained Lutheran minister.

I initially heard about this book from an interesting interview with Bolz-Weber on National Public Radio’s Fresh Air program.  Although she is deeply rooted in her Lutheran (Christian) tradition, I think her unique perspective on faith and grace makes Accidental Saints an inspirational read for people of all faiths. I really enjoyed the audiobook version, because it includes short Gregorian chants interspersed between some chapters.
