Jim Butcher’s debut novel introduces Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only Wizard for Hire as he finds himself a suspect and potential victim in a series of murders with a paranormal bent. Harry’s a noir style detective—hard luck, and a sucker for a lady—but he’s also tenacious in protecting innocents from the magical world and a gifted wizard. This is the first of fourteen titles and thirteen of them are read superbly by James Marsters (Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Torchwood) who has become the voice of the series, delivering a great variety of characters and all of the humor and care in Harry’s self-deprecating voice.
