It’s a panic!

Six peaceful little rabbits are enjoying a lakeside lunch when they become startled by an unusual and very scary sound. The bunnies head for the woods in terror, causing a panic among the other forest creatures: “They do not stay. They do not stop. They run run run from the Terrible PLOP.” Only the big brown bear keeps his cool, insisting that one of the rabbits take him to the source of the frightening noise. But when the unlikely duo arrive at “the place of the PLOP” and the sound repeats itself, it’s the intimidating bear who runs for cover as the clever rabbit figures out what’s really going on.

This enjoyable picture book is reminiscent of A Fly Went By, Mike McClintock’s 1958 classic in which a self-reliant boy calms a panicked parade of people and animals when he discovers the innocuous source of a strange sound that has put all of them to flight.
