Paris

Music that evokes a lazy afternoon at a French café.

I discovered this CD by a sort of happy accident. It is a collection of French chanson from Putumayo World Music. Chanson is the French word for song and described in the liner notes this way: “As much poetry and theater as it is music, chanson was pioneered by Edith Piaf…That heritage is upheld today by a group of artists who have reinvented the genre.” While the stories and music behind these songs are fascinating, I am recommending this CD because it makes me smile every time I listen to it. It is like having a shortcut to Paris whenever I feel the need to escape my everyday routine for an hour or two.
