Does a duck's quack echo?

LE_June 25 2021_Egg Splat Edit.jpgI’m a Library Assistant, and I have the best job ever. You may be thinking – Hanging out at a library all day sounds boring. But that couldn’t be further from the truth! Let me tell you my favorite things about my job.

My focus is Youth Services and one of my favorite tasks is planning and executing the STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) programs. I try to see the world through the eyes of the children I encounter and think about what they want to know and do.

Why do clouds form? Are people’s fingerprints really unique? How fast do objects fall? How do astronauts urinate in space? Does a duck's quack echo? (click here for the answer)

The world is a big place, and many of the things adults take for granted are new and wonderful to children.

Sometimes kids want to try new things and hobbies but don’t want to purchase the supplies in case they don’t like it. Through our STEAM programs, they can.

Learning is frequently messy, loud, and hands-on. I know that can give a parent pause at home, but at the library we love to do all the fun and messy learning we can. I give children a chance to investigate things for themselves. The surprise, the awe, and the smiles on their faces are worth every bit of the time and effort. Each month we have a new STEAM activity or program. Stop by and let a child you love experience the wonders of investigation with us.
