A self-assessment tool for decolonial teaching and learning
Re-Storying Education is such a thought-provoking book. This quote on the back really says it all: “A guidebook for educators looking to actively reshape education and include historically silenced voices.” I really like that each chapter starts with a “playlist” of songs, lectures, poetry, etc. related to the content, and ends with questions for reflection. It’s definitely aimed toward educators, but it’s still accessible to anyone (including your local librarian). For example, the questions at the end of the fourth chapter include: Who are the authors of the books and other resources you use in your classroom? Whose voice is dominant in the readings? Whose voices might be missing? Though I’m not an educator, these questions are widely applicable--from my own personal bookshelf to the books I choose for storytimes for our youngest patrons.
