Visiting Day

For families with incarcerated loved ones

The unnamed narrator, a young girl, describes her once-monthly trip to visit her father who is “doing a little time” as her grandmother puts it. She and her grandmother and others in their community attempt to retain connection with their incarcerated loved ones through gifts, cards, and visitation days. With innocent prose and touching illustrations, kids and families with incarcerated family members can relate to the struggles the characters face, and the hope they hold on to that one day their loved ones will return and there won’t be a need for a visiting day.
