"Remember the ladies"...or else!

For many of us, the one bit of historical trivia we know about Abigail Adams, besides her being the wife of President John Adams, was her famous admonition to the Continental Congress (and husband John) to give women their just do in congressional deliberations
And that’s it. Personally, I’ve always pictured her as a well-educated but rather demure letter-writer and helpmate to her husband.
This very cool little book blows all of that away. While Abigail was certainly scholarly, and did write a ton of letters, and always had her husband’s back, she was no passive wallflower. The real Abigail was a take-charge sort of woman who was not afraid to buck the wishes of her parents when she chose to marry a rumpled country lawyer, nor did she blanch at the prospect of running the family farm alone while John was away on Founding Father business. And as First Lady (a term that didn’t yet exist), Abigail was very involved in government affairs and sometimes served as a conduit between President Adams and other officials.

Read this book and you’ll understand why, on the cover, Abigail looks so much like Rosie the Riveter.
