A sweet (wink-wink) story that does a realistic and believable job portraying an 11-year-old trying to deal with both acclimating to a new country, learning a new language and living with grief, all of which he tries to do by baking cakes. He constantly compares his new home to living on Mars and this apt analogy is strengthened by the immersive illustrations. Great for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, and Dork Diaries.
