Everyone knows Charlie Chaplin. Most film buffs are familiar with Buster Keaton. But in their heyday, their popularity was rivalled by Harold Lloyd, a.k.a. "The Man with the Glasses." Lloyd was the archetypal Everyman, relatable in a way that his idiosyncratic peers were not. His comedies were difficult to come by for many years, but the Criterion Collection has been restoring them, and The Freshman is a fantastic place to start. A sweet, sharp-edged satire of sports and college life, it's as hilarious and relevant today as it was in 1925!
